Pastel Landscapes

In September of 2017 I visited some cities in Portugal and Spain. Like most people, I take photos of the big sites. But I also took a few photos while we were driving through the countryside. I recently went back to look through them and chose two to use as inspirations for some small pastel studies (6" x 4 3/4"). Both of these drawings are views along the rio Guadalquivir. It is the only navigable river in Spain and reaches from the Gulf of Cadiz to Seville.

Next I might try the same images in watercolor. Or I might look over my travel photos for other landscapes to try to capture. It's meditative and enjoyable work.
